Auston Matthews goal total odds: Can the reigning MVP eclipse the 40-goal mark again?

Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to catch fire coming down the home stretch.

The latest: No goals in seven of his last nine has Matthews in a bit of a slump. The reigning Hart Trophy winner won't come close to last year's 60-goal mark, but he did score in his most recent outing and surpassing 40 is still within the realm of possibility.

Matthews has scored 41-plus goals in each of the past three seasons and we've got a betting market geared around him reaching that number yet again. Check out our latest Auston Matthews goal total odds below.

Bet: Matthews to score 41+ goals this season (+110)

This had been a disappointing season for Matthews. Toronto's centre has missed multiple games due to injury and has scored just 29 goals in 57 games — which is less than stellar by his standards.

The low totals can mainly be attributed to a slow start. Matthews scored three goals in the 10 games Toronto played in October, but then began to heat up.

A new heater is needed for the sniper to get back on track. Matthews only has three goals in his last nine outings, which is not an encouraging pace for one of the league's top goal-scoring talents.

He's currently projected to score 37 goals, according to EPSN, but who's to say he doesn't breeze by that mark? The two-time Rocket Richard winner can catch fire at a moment's notice and when he does, opposing goalies don't really have a shot.
