Jaguars vs. Chargers Week 3 picks

Best bet: Jaguars moneyline (+148)

The injury concerns for the Chargers are just too much it seems.

Let's start with Justin Herbert. Los Angeles' QB was drilled late in the team's 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and is suffering from fractured rib cartilage.

He's only been able to log limited practices this week and didn't throw at all on Friday as the ailment continues to linger. His absence would force career backup, Chase Daniel, into the starting role.

It doesn't stop there, though, as star corner J.C. Jackson and centre Corey Linsley have both been absent from practice. Top wideout Keenan Allen has only been a limited participant, making him far from a sure thing to suit up.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, are extremely healthy. Only corner Shaquill Griffin is listed with an injury designation which is a major positive as the team looks to keep rolling with new head coach Doug Pederson.

Jacksonville ranks second in DVOA - only trailing the Buffalo Bills - through the first two weeks of the season.

Additionally, Trevor Lawrence was surgical in the team's 24-0 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2. The sophomore completed 25-of-30 passes for 235 passing yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Bet on the healthy Jags as underdogs against the severely banged-up Chargers.

Key stat: At 35 years old, Daniel has started just five NFL games in his career and owns a 2-3 record.

Quick picks

Chargers under 22.5 points (-103): Whether it's Daniel or a compromised Herbert, there are reasons to be skeptical with Los Angeles' offence.

Allen's potential absence complicates matters even further. Jacksonville's defence has shut out its opponent in five of its last six quarters of action and ranks eighth with only 304.0 total yards of offence against per game this year.

Jaguars +3.5 (-121): For those not bold enough to bet the Jags on the moneyline, you can get a field goal and a hook at a reasonable price.

The Jags have looked like a legitimate NFL team through the first two weeks of this season, which is more than you could say about them a year ago. They're healthy, the Chargers aren't. Take the points.
