Next Maple Leafs GM odds: Treliving the favourite to replace Dubas

The Toronto Maple Leafs are searching for a general manager after the team elected not to renew Kyle Dubas' contract.

Although Dubas' tenure dominated headlines, it didn't result in much on-ice success. Toronto won just one playoff series during his seven years in charge, failing to meet expectations on a routine basis. The team is now looking across the hockey world for his replacement.

Here are the latest odds on who will become the next GM of the Maple Leafs.

Best odds to become next GM of the Leafs

The favourite: Brad Treliving (-110)

There are a lot of signs pointing toward Treliving being the next Toronto general manager.

The first is a rather obvious one. A number of reports, including from our Chris Johnston, have Treliving stated as either high on Toronto's list or as the frontrunner for the position.

The second is comments made by Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan when discussing what the organization was looking for after parting with Dubas.

"I’m going to be open-minded to who that person can be," he stated. "I want to be open-minded to all candidates. Certainly having an experienced general manager would be an attractive quality."

Experience is the operative word in his comments and something Treliving isn't short on. The hockey executive served as the Calgary Flames general manager for the last nine seasons before being let go.

He has been a general manager or assistant general manager in the NHL or AHL in every season since 2002-03.

We're not sure how much this factors into the decision, but it appears he has an endorsement from Matthew Tkachuk, too.

He's not a bad guy to receive some positive words from these days.

Any other (+200)

With the rest of the options failing to inspire much confidence, we're happy to take +200 odds on someone not listed in this market.

The first options that come to mind for this wager, however, aren't great. Ron Hextall, Jason Botterill, Jim Benning and Brian Burke are all searching for work after massively underperforming expectations elsewhere.

This bet, however, leaves the door open for an out-of-nowhere candidate. Although it's impossible to predict who that may be, other names may enter the conversation as the hiring process intensifies.

Brandon Pridham (+700)

Pridham makes some sense at these odds for a pair of reasons.

The first is his experience with the organization. Pridham has been with the Maple Leafs since the 2014-15 season, serving as special assistant to the general manager and assistant general manager during his tenure.

Secondly, he's on the shortlist of candidates we know who is actually receiving consideration for the position after Shanahan confirmed so.

"I'm not ruling anybody out at this point. I think we'll have all those conversations [regarding Pridham]," he said. "I'm not ruling out any possibilities in a future general manager. We have to get to work. Brandon [Pridham]'s a great example of a guy that has excellent relationships with agents and players and getting ready for the draft."

Pridham's a solid value pick without many names firmly materializing for the position yet.
