Rams vs. Cardinals Week 3 picks and odds: Bet on a huge day from Stafford

After holding off the Atlanta Falcons for their first win of the season, the Los Angeles Rams draw the Arizona Cardinals for a Week 3 divisional battle.

The pregame narrative: The Cardinals' defence has been horrendous against opposing passing offences, leaving the door wide open for a big day from Matthew Stafford. These teams have played in high-scoring games all year, and Los Angeles seems to have the overall edge.

Rams vs. Cardinals Week 3 picks

Best bet: Stafford over 24.5 completions + over 1.5 TDs (+155)

Stafford isn't off to a roaring start, but he's likely to put up some impressive numbers on Sunday. Even if his elbow is limiting him slightly, he'll benefit from a date with a passing defence that has been nothing short of brutal.

Quarterbacks who've faced the Cardinals this season have lit up the scoreboard:

Completion PercentageYards/AttemptYardsTouchdownsInterceptions
70.5%6047.770

Both signal-callers to play Arizona have hit both the overs in this parlay. The same can be said for Stafford last week — and he's cleared the completion leg with ease in both of his 2022 starts.

Although the 34-year-old may not be at his best right now, he won't have to be to clear these lines.

He has an elite top receiver in Cooper Kupp to lean on, and his rapport with Allen Robinson looks like it's improving. After the wide receiver's grim Week 1, he produced a 53-yard effort in Week 2 that included his first touchdown as a Ram.

Key stat: Stafford has multiple touchdowns in 14 of his 19 starts as a Ram — and he hasn't managed less than 27 completions in any game this season.

Quick picks

Over 48.5 points (-110): Cardinals games have averaged 58.5 points this season. The Rams' total-point average is 49.5. Only one of the four games these clubs have played this season came in below this number.

This looks like a shootout in the making. The two games between these teams totalled 110 points last season and there's no reason to expect a significant change of pace in this one.

Rams -3.5 (-109): The Rams have been a slight disappointment so far, but we still see a significant talent discrepancy between Los Angeles and Arizona. Both teams can create explosive offensive plays, but the Rams' defence has several impact players like Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey while the Cardinals' unit is sieve-like.

Arizona's team numbers are inflated by their garbage-time production against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders' late collapse in Week 2. That means the gap between these squads is probably bigger than it appears at first glance.
