Best NFL MVP odds
The favourite: Patrick Mahomes (+300)
Mahomes is coming off the worst regular season of his career ... and he still won the Super Bowl.
He posted career lows in yards per game (261.4), touchdowns (27), quarterback rating (92.6), and interceptions (14). The Chiefs went 11-6 and had to play the AFC Divisional and Championship rounds on the road.
After that, the rest is history.
To start this season, the Chiefs' offence looks a lot more potent. First-round pick Xavier Worthy scored two TDs in his debut. Marquise "Hollywood" Brown is another new receiver with wheels who has yet to debut with the Chiefs and will miss some time.
The new editions plus a strong defence have helped Mahomes and the Chiefs jump out to a 2-0 start.
Other NFL MVP choices
Best value: C.J. Stroud (+500)
Texans fans are going to be happy for a long, long time.
Stroud lit the NFL on fire in his rookie season. He was first in passing yards per game (273.9), third in yards per attempt (8.2), and fifth in passer rating (100.8) among quarterbacks with more than eight games played.
He finished a pedestrian 14th in touchdown passes (23) but that number should drastically increase in 2024.
In Week 1, he threw for just 232 yards but added two touchdowns, picking up right where he left off. The newly acquired Stefon Diggs caught both of those TDs and looks to be a great addition to the offence.
In Week 2, Stroud was tasked with playing the defensively strong Chicago Bears but still managed to record 260 yards and one TD pass.
MVP betting notes
- Jalen Hurts (+1,000) opened the season with the second-shortest odds but has fallen to fourth after a sloppy outing to start the season. He went for 278 yards and two TDs but threw two INTs and lost a fumble in a close win over the Green Bay Packers.
- Josh Allen (+400) lost his WR1 and WR2 during the offseason and now has Khalil Shakir and rookie Keon Coleman as his top options. It didn't seem to matter through two weeks as the Bills are 2-0 and Allen has three passing TDs and two rushing. The Bills' QB now carries the second-shortest odds.
- Can Lamar Jackson (+2,000) lock up consecutive MVP trophies? He'll have his work cut out as Baltimore is 0-2 to start the season. However, this could be a good time to buy low if you believe the Ravens can turn it around.
