The World Cup is almost upon us and with it comes plenty of opportunities on the player prop front.

The pre-tournament narrative: Robert Lewandowski is set to put his World Cup demons behind him, Kai Havertz will have to shoulder the attacking burden for Germany and Bernardo Silva is a nice plus-money fade.

Check out our best World Cup prop picks for the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

World Cup prop picks

Best Bet: Lewandowski over 1.5 goals (+100)

Quick trivia question: Lewandowski has scored over 600 goals for his club and country — how many of those have been in the World Cup?

The answer is zero.

To be fair to Lewandowski, he only participated in one World Cup and that was back in 2018. Poland didn't advance through the group stage and its best player didn't find the net.

It's time that changes. Lewandowski has scored a record 76 times for Poland in 134 appearances and he's due to extend that record in Qatar.

Of those 76 goals, nine came during World Cup qualifying. He also scored three goals in three games at the 2020 Euro Cup.

Lewandowski has been the greatest striker of this generation and he hasn't slowed down at age 34. He's scored 18 goals in 17 appearances for Barcelona this season and scored 50 goals in 46 appearances for Bayern Munich the year prior.

Poland will be facing Argentina, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in Group C. He should have ample opportunities to score against the latter but will likely have opportunities to score in all three games. It also helps that Lewandowski is on penalty duty, should one be given.

Key stat: Lewandowski has 636 goals for club and country in 899 career games.

Quick picks

Havertz over 1.5 goals (+130): The recent injury to Timo Werner is unfortunate for Germany. Werner's 24 goals were the second among players on the active squad, behind only Thomas Muller. That void has to be filled and we expect Havertz to pick up the slack.

The 23-year-old has scored 10 goals in 30 appearances for Germany with eight of those coming in his last 20 games. As an attacking midfielder, he won't see as many opportunities as a player like Lewandowski, but we're still happy to roll with this.

Germany should advance out of Group E, which means Havertz will have four-plus games to find the goal.

Silva under 0.5 goals (+155): Silva is a solid player but operates as a facilitator for the Portuguese national team. He has just eight goals in 72 appearances and has scored one goal for Portugal in the last two years.

He has also never scored at the World Cup.

We don't expect those trends to change this time around. Look for Silva to be finding players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Diogo Jota rather than shooting the ball himself.
