The T20 World Cup is underway and has already provided a seismic upset.

The latest: USA defeated Pakistan in a super over in group play, and as a result the highly-ranked Pakistanis have seen a huge drop in their odds to win the tournament. India, which has fallen just short in the last eight major international tournaments, is favoured to take home the trophy.

Best odds to win the T20 World Cup

The favourite: India (+230)

India has been so close to winning a World Cup in recent years.

The team lost by six wickets to Australia in the 2023 Cricket World Cup final and were semifinalists the last time the T20 was played, bowing out to the eventual champion England.

The Men in Blue won the inaugural T20 tournament in 2007 but haven't climbed the mountaintop since.

They finished runner-up to Sri Lanka in 2014 and had an additional semifinal appearance in the tournament after that.

Suryakumar Yadav entered the tournament as the No. 1-ranked T20 batsman while Axar Patel is the No. 4-ranked bowler. Those two will play an integral role if India is to snap its drought.

India won by a comfortable eight-wicket margin in its group stage opener against Ireland. It'll face Pakistan in a hugely important match on June 9.

T20 World Cup notes

  • England won the last edition of this tournament in November 2022, beating Pakistan in the final in Melbourne. Will Jacks, Phil Salt, and Harry Brook are three of the best batting prospects in the event while Adil Rashid and Jofra Archer form a deadly 1-2 punch as bowlers. England received one point in its opening match due to a "no result" against Scotland, which was caused by rain.
  • USA is still an enormous long shot to win the tournament, but it'll come out of this tournament with a historic win at the very least. The Americans' win over Pakistan was a massive upset and brought the team to a 2-0 record in the tournament. USA now sits at +800 to win its group, well behind the favoured India (-1,430).
  • Canada got in the win column with a 12-run victory over Ireland. That marked Canada's first ever win at the ICC T20 World Cup. The road will only get bumpier for the Canadians, though, as No. 6 Pakistan and No. 1 India are the remaining opponents in group play.
