NBA first-round playoff odds: Jokic's Nuggets are heavy favourites over LeBron and the Lakers

The NBA playoffs have begun.

The latest: The West is loaded with must-see matchups, including a Nikola Jokic vs. LeBron James showdown. The Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Phoenix Suns while the Los Angeles Clippers host the Dallas Mavericks. In the East, the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers do battle.

NBA first-round playoff odds: Eastern Conference

Celtics (1) vs. Heat (8)

  • Boston won the season series over Miami (3-0)
  • The Celtics were a league-best 37-4 at home with a +15.5 net rating.
  • Miami eliminated Boston from the playoffs last year in seven games but will be without Jimmy Butler (MCL sprain) this time.

Knicks (2) vs. 76ers (7)

  • New York won the season series opener 111-104
  • The Knicks are 21-3 with OG Anunoby in the lineup, including a 3-0 record against the 76ers
  • The under is 4-1 in Knicks/76ers games this season

Bucks (3) vs. Pacers (6)

  • Indiana won the season series over Milwaukee (4-1)
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo isn't expected to be ready for the beginning of this series. Milwaukee is 4-5 without Giannis in the lineup this season
  • The Bucks went 17-19 with a +1.2 net rating with Doc Rivers as the head coach
  • The Pacers have the second-best offensive rating (120.6) since the all-star break

Cavaliers (4) vs. Magic (5)

  • Cleveland won the series opener 97-83, which was the second-lowest scoring game of Orlando's season
  • The Magic were a league-best 51-31 ATS with most of that success coming at home (27-13)
  • Orlando has the best defensive rating (108.2) since the all-star break
  • The Cavaliers haven't won a playoff series without LeBron James since 1993

NBA first-round playoff odds: Western Conference

Thunder (1) vs. Pelicans (8)

  • Oklahoma City won the season series over New Orleans (2-1)
  • Zion Williamson will miss the series with a hamstring strain. The Pelicans are 9-5 without him this year but did lose by 24 to the Thunder with him sidelined.
  • OKC was 27-14 ATS at home this season while NOLA was 14-5-1 ATS as a road dog.

Nuggets (2) vs. Lakers (7)

  • Denver won the season series over Los Angeles (3-0) and the series opener 114-103
  • The Nuggets swept the Lakers in the playoffs last season en route to winning their first NBA championship
  • Denver went 33-8 at home this seaosn and 10-1 at home in the playoffs last year
  • Los Angeles was 19-21 on the road this season.

Timberwolves (3) vs. Suns (6)

  • Phoenix won the season series against Minnesota (3-0) but got crushed 120-95 in the series opener
  • Anthony Edwards scored 33 points on 14-of-24 shooting
  • Minnesota is now 31-11 at home on the season.

Clippers (4) vs. Mavericks (5)

  • Los Angeles won the season series against Dallas (2-1)
  • Dallas won 16 of its final 20 games to close out the season, positing the fifth-best net rating (+7.6) in that span
  • The Clippers are 25-16 at home while the Mavericks are 25-16 on the road. L.A. did lose three straight home games to close out the regular season, though
