Two of the world's bright young tennis stars add another chapter to their storyline rivalry.
The pregame narrative: Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have done this dance nine times before with the Spaniard winning five and the Italian coming out victorious in four. I expect a close match, so I'm backing over 38.5 total games as my best bet. Also, don't count the underdog out of this one.
Check out our Alcaraz vs. Sinner odds and best bet for their French Open match on June 7.
Alcaraz vs. Sinner French Open odds
Best Bet: Over 38.5 total games (-113)
Both Alcaraz and Sinner entered the tournament with injury concerns but have seemingly been close to 100% if we're judging by their play so far at Roland-Garros.
If these guys are healthy, tennis fans should be treated to a thriller in what many consider the true finals.
The last time these two met in a best-of-five matchup was at the US Open in 2022. The match lasted 56 total games which is well over the mark needed for Friday.
Overall, they've played 27 sets with each other in total and have split them almost evenly at 14-13 with the Alcaraz holding the advantage.
Even if one won in four sets, there's still plenty of opportunity for this play to hit if the sets are relatively close. And, with the skill level present, there's reason to believe that they will be.
At the 2024 French Open so far, Sinner has held 91% of his service points while Alcaraz has a slightly worse rate of 85%, per matchstat.com.
Evidently, it will be difficult for either star to run away with the match if they are unable to break each other's serve.
Key stat: Both best-of-five matches between Alcaraz and Sinner have gone 39-plus games.
Quick pick
Sinner +2.5 games (-106): As previously mentioned, this rivalry is close and high-skill and that's what makes it probably the most exciting in tennis right now.
What once was a weaker surface for Sinner, clay has become another strength in his well-rounded game. In 2024, the Italian has an incredible record of 33-2 and is 11-1 on the red dirt.
Alcaraz is no slouch of course but his 23-5 record this year isn't as good as his counterparts.
When factoring in that Sinner opponents for 2024 have an average rank of 96.4 compared to a 124.4 average ranking of Alcaraz's competitors, it becomes clear that the Italian is in better form.
He's a world-class ball striker who's elite on all surfaces and he's playing at his highest level.
