Two of MLB's best hitters headline today's prop bets.

The pregame narrative: Yordan Alvarez is heating up and I want a piece of his bases prop against the Oakland Athletics. Later on, all the signs point toward Bryce Harper having a monster night. I'm also taking the over on Walker Buehler's strikeout prop.

Check out the best MLB prop bets for May 25.

MLB prop bets

Best bet: Alvarez over 1.5 bases (+112)

When Alvarez gets hot, watch out.

Right now he's on a scorching six-game hitting streak with nine total knocks, five of which went for extra bases.

He's cashed this prop in five straight games and will have ample opportunities on the road as the Houston Astros' No. 3 hitter.

Alvarez gets A's lefty JP Sears who is far from a shutdown arm.

He has a 4.31 ERA to pair with a 4.60 FIP in 10 starts. Sears also ranks in the bottom-third percentile in K rate (17.3%), barrel rate (10.2%) and hard-hit rate (42.5%), per Baseball Savant.

Somehow, he has had Alvarez's number, holding the slugger to just one single in nine at-bats with five strikeouts — but I can't see that continuing.

The 26-year-old runs reverse splits against lefties and is slashing .356/.400/.534 against them this year and .306/.384/.562 against them lifetime.

Sears has given up four earned runs in two of his last three starts and I expect him to get shelled again tonight.

Key stat: Alvarez has 15 total bases in his last five games.

Quick picks

Harper over 1.5 hits (+140): This is about the only way to glean value from Harper tonight.

The two-time MVP was ejected in the first inning of yesterday's game and is sure to come back with a vengeance. At altitude against Dakota Hudson and the Colorado Rockies he is -155 to record two-plus bases and -200 to score.

Harper has flat-out dominated Hudson, going 7-for-8 with three doubles and a home run against the righty.

Hudson is getting sparked by just about everyone this year, though, and carries a 5.89 ERA and fourth-percentile K rate (12.6%) into this contest.

Prior to his ejection, Harper had a hit in nine of his last 10 games with three multi-hit outings.

Buehler over 5.5 strikeouts (+120): Buehler is making his fourth start back since recovering from Tommy John surgery that forced him to miss the entire 2023 season.

His last time out he faced the Cincinnati Reds and held them to just three hits in 6.0 IP while fanning seven.

Buehler gets the Reds again tonight and a repeat performance is definitely in the cards.

Cincinnati has the third-highest K rate in MLB (25.6%) and is striking out in nearly a third of its at-bats (31.3%) in the last three games.

The Los Angeles Dodgers righty had a respectable 26.0% K rate in his last full season before getting injured. He finished fourth in Cy Young voting and led MLB in ERA+ (171).
