The true midpoint of the 2024 MLB season is well in the rearview, but the all-star break is another logical point to check in on the World Series odds.

The latest: As teams get set to take a midsummer breather, the Los Angeles Dodgers still find themselves in pole position on the championship odds leaderboard. The cluster behind them features a pair of AL East juggernauts.

Here are the latest World Series odds for the 2024 season.

Best World Series odds

The favourite: Los Angeles Dodgers (+300)

Even with injuries to Mookie Betts, Clayton Kershaw, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Max Muncy, the Dodgers haven't lost a step as the World Series frontrunners.

That has a lot to do with excellent contributions from newcomers Shohei Ohtani (1.034 OPS), Tyler Glasnow (3.47 ERA) and Teoscar Hernandez (.800 OPS), who added plenty of star power to a team already brimming with it.

Let's sum it up this way: The Dodgers are first in OPS (.769) and seventh in ERA (3.71). There aren't many weaknesses in this bunch.

With 100-plus wins in each of the past four full seasons, the Dodgers have proven several times over that they are a well-oiled machine in the regular season.

Aside from a World Series title in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, though, L.A. has struggled to meet expectations in the playoffs.

The team has only one playoff win across its past two postseasons, bowing out quickly in the NLDS both times.

It's too early to seriously watch the standings, but the Dodgers are currently in a tight race to earn a bye. If they wind up in the wild-card round, their odds will surely lengthen a bit.

Blue Jays World Series odds

Blue Jays (+20,000)

We're inside the final three weeks until the MLB trade deadline, and it's time for the Blue Jays to make some tough decisions.

After a quiet winter headlined by Toronto publicly whiffing on Shohei Ohtani, the Jays are sitting in the basement of the AL East — a far cry from a playoff spot.

Could we see the Blue Jays turn into sellers for the first time since 2019? It's possible, and their World Series odds suggest it might be the right idea.

Toronto ranks 22nd in OPS (.685) and 23rd in ERA (4.34). Only two regulars in the lineup have an OPS above .720. It's a bleak time for the franchise right now.

World Series notes

  • The AL East is led by a two-headed monster in the Yankees (+500) and Orioles (+700), who are the only AL teams with championship odds inside of 15-to-1. These teams are in a crucial divisional battle, too, and the AL East odds will be something to monitor down the stretch.
  • Cleveland (+1,800) hasn't pushed past the ALDS since 2016, when it finished one game shy of a title. Its championship drought dates back to the 1940s, but maybe this is the year that changes. The Guardians, playing at a 99-win pace, rank eighth in scoring and have the game's best closer in Emmanuel Clase.
  • The NL playoff picture should be a logjam right through September. But the Padres (+3,800) are on the right side of things right now, which makes them interesting as an outsider's choice. According to FanGraphs, San Diego has a 66.6% chance to make the playoffs. The team is loaded with star power and has been known to make splashy moves at the trade deadline.
  • It's time to acknowledge what the Astros (+1,600) are up to. If you thought they were cooked, you thought wrong. Houston was once 12-24, but it has played at a 106-win pace since then. Despite still sitting outside the playoff picture entering the all-star break, the Astros' playoff odds at FanGraphs (66.3%) are the highest in the AL West.
