The Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins begin another epic playoff series on Saturday night.

The pregame narrative: Buckle up, this is going to be a bumpy ride. Toronto (+112) is an underdog against favoured Boston (-129) in Game 1 and I'm siding with the latter. The under is my preferred play for the total and the Maple Leafs' team total.

Check out the best Maple Leafs picks and odds vs. the Bruins for April 20.

Maple Leafs picks vs. Bruins

Best Bet: Bruins moneyline (-129)

Boston certainly appears to have the formula for beating Toronto.

The Bruins have won seven consecutive games against the Maple Leafs and their playoff dominance over their divisional rival is well-documented. They've won all three postseason series against their foe since 2013.

The biggest edge in this contest lies between the pipes for Boston. The team's netminders are its greatest strength as Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark form the best tandem in the league.

Both puck-stoppers placed inside the top 10 in save percentage among goaltenders with 15-plus starts.

Toronto's goalies, meanwhile, are stumbling heading into the playoffs. Samsonov owns a subpar .899 save percentage over the last two months.

Joseph Woll, on the other hand, has an even worse .884 save percentage since returning from injury.

Neutralizing Auston Matthews is the key to beating Toronto and that's something Boston has been successful in doing.

Key stat: Matthews scored zero goals in two games against the Bruins in 2024.

Quick picks

Under 5.5 goals (+105): A Boston win likely comes in a low-scoring game.

The Bruins were one of the league's better under teams this season. They ranked 10th in under percentage (54.3%), according to Scores and Odds.

Going below the game total was especially common down the stretch. This under cashed in eight of their last nine games of the campaign.

There have been five goals or fewer in four of Boston's last five meetings with Toronto.

Maple Leafs under 2.5 goals - regulation (-106): Toronto's offence is prolific but it struggles against Boston.

The Maple Leafs have scored two goals or fewer in five of their last six meetings with the Bruins. They totalled a minuscule seven goals in four games in the head-to-head series this past season.

The Bruins held five of their last eight regular season opponents to two goals or fewer.
