Best odds to win the Open Championship

The favourite: Scottie Scheffler (+500)

With the way Scheffler has played this year, it would be a disappointment if he didn't win this event.

The Texan is in the midst of a truly historic run. He became the first player since Arnold Palmer in 1962 to win six times before July. Every single victory was either at a designated event or a major as Scheffler won both the Masters and Players Championship for a second time.

Scheffler is boat racing the PGA Tour in strokes gained: tee-to-green. The gap between him (+2.723) and second-place Xander Schauffele (+1.665) is greater than the gap between Schauffele and No. 37-ranked Joel Dahmen (0.601).

There is no disputing that Scheffler has earned these odds. It's just a matter of whether he can keep things rolling at the right time.

His best finish at the Open was a T8 in 2021.

Open Championship betting notes

  • McIlroy had a two-shot lead with five holes to play at the U.S. Open. He proceeded to bogey three of the last four holes with a pair of brutal missed short putts. The four-time major champion hasn't reached the mountaintop since 2014 but has five top-five finishes in his last 11 starts.
  • DeChambeau benefited from McIlroy's meltdown at Pinehurst but he was a deserving champion. The 30-year-old built off a T6 at the Masters and a T2 at the PGA Championship to secure his second major win. He's only finished inside the top 25 at The Open once and it was in 2022 (T8).
  • Schauffele secured his first major in benign conditions, winning the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club at -21. But he's been the clear No. 2 to Scheffler this year with 11 top-10 finishes including at all three majors.
  • Ludvig Aberg has only played in three majors but he looks like a veteran. The Swede was runner-up to Scheffler at the Masters and held the 36-hole lead at the U.S. Open.
  • Reigning champion Brian Harman clocks in at +6,600. He had a tough start to the season but is rounding into form with a T9 at the Travelers Championship.
  • Corey Conners held the shortest pre-tournament odds of any Canadian in the field at 66-to-1. He finished T9 at the U.S. Open last month and is one of the best ball strikers on tour.
