RBC Heritage odds and best bets: Back Scottie Scheffler, Shane Lowry at Harbour Town

The Masters is behind us but the PGA Tour is back with a stacked field for the RBC Heritage.

The latest: Scottie Scheffler is on a different level and I don't see a Masters hangover happening. He is worth backing to finish inside the top five while Shane Lowry and Matthew Fitzpatrick are my picks to land in the top 20.

Check out our RBC Heritage odds and best bets for the tournament beginning on April 18.

Scheffler has won three of his last four starts and was a five-footer away from forcing a playoff in the other.

He beat everyone not named Ludvig Aberg by at least seven strokes at Augusta and is lapping the field in strokes gained: tee-to-green.

He's every bit deserving of these odds.

Four players, including Aberg, hold odds between 10 and 20-to-1. Among that group is Patrick Cantlay, who finished second and third in his last two starts at Harbour Town.

Fitzpatrick is the defending champion. He beat Jordan Spieth in a playoff last year, who was defending his title from 2022.

Scottie Scheffler top-five finish-110
Shane Lowry top-20 finish+110
Matthew Fitzpatrick top-20 finish-120

Golf picks made at 1:30 p.m. on 04/16/2024.

Scheffler top-five finish (-110): I don't care how chalky this is because Scheffler is on a historic run. That's not hyperbole, either. DataGolf has Scheffler listed as their second-best golfer since 1995 behind only Tiger Woods:

He has 17 top-five finishes in his last 25 starts (68.0%) and most of those were in full-field events.

Only 69 players are teeing it up at Harbour Town this week and none of them outside of Stephen Jaeger have beaten him since the start of March.

Lowry top-20 finish (+110): Lowry had himself an interesting week at Augusta National.

The Irishman led the field in strokes gained: approach (+1.61) but was dead last in strokes gained: putting (-1.95). That netted out to a disappointing T43 finish.

But Lowry had finished inside the top 20 in three straight PGA Tour events before the Masters, ranking 13th, seventh and second in strokes gained: approach.

He's hitting the cover off the ball and has three top-10 finishes in his last five starts here. This is a nice bounce-back spot.

Fitzpatrick top-20 finish (-120): It's no secret Fitzpatrick loves Harbour Town. He won this event last year and finished T4 in 2021 and T14 in 2020 (he missed the cut in 2022).

The Englishman has been playing some great golf lately. He narrowly missed out on a top 20 at Augusta (T22) and finished 10th and fifth in his two starts before that.

Fitzpatrick is a great putter and has picked up strokes on approach in four of his last six starts. He should be in contention this week.
