Giants vs. Dodgers SGP picks July 23: Teoscar Hernandez looks to stay hot after HR Derby win

The Los Angeles Dodgers look to extend their winning streak to five games tonight as they host the San Francisco Giants.

The pregame narrative: Last night, L.A. squeaked by with a 3-2 win over San Fran in River Ryan's MLB debut. Tonight, another lesser-known pitcher — Landon Knack — starts for the Dodgers. I'm backing Knack, Patrick Bailey and Teoscar Hernandez in this three-leg parlay (+420).

Parlay: Hernandez over 1.5 bases + Bailey over 0.5 hits + Knack over 3.5 Ks (+420)

Hernandez over 1.5 bases (+125): Some people say that home run derbies can mess with ballplayers' swings, but that hasn't proven true with Hernandez.

The 2024 Derby champ has stayed red hot coming out of the all-star break, cashing this bet in all four games. He went 3-for-4 with a home run last night to life the Dodgers past the Giants.

Hernandez has a .365/.420/.571 slash line this month, which equates to a 182 wRC+. And he's gone over 1.5 bases in 10 of 16 games.

The former Blue Jay is 2-for-5 against Giants starter Jordan Hicks.

Other parlay picks

Bailey over 0.5 hits (-175): Bailey doesn't have a lot of star power, but he's been largely reliable on his hits prop this season.

I had this same pick in yesterday's SGP, and Bailey came through with a 2-for-3 night.

The best part about Bailey's offensive profile is that he's an expert at squaring up the baseball. He has a 44.7% launch angle sweet spot rate, per Baseball Savant, which is the best in the bigs.

Facing Knack last month, Bailey went 1-for-2 with a double. He has now cashed this prop in 43 of 65 starts (66.2%).

Knack over 3.5 Ks (-250): Knack is still finding his footing as a big-leaguer, but this line really isn't asking for much.

The 2020 second-rounder has cleared this total in six of eight starts as a rookie. He has 36 Ks in 39.0 innings on the year.

His season-high strikeout total came last month against the Giants, when he fanned seven batters over 4.2 innings.

San Francisco will likely deploy five lefties against the right-handed Knack, and that might actually be a good thing for this bet. Knack has a higher K rate against lefties (25.0%) than he does against righties (20.0%) so far.
