USA vs. Serbia preview

Serbia poses one of the biggest threats to the USA's golden aspirations. The Serbians are currently tied for the third-shortest odds to win gold alongside France.

However, the Avenger-esque Americans have already shown that the gap between them and everyone else is wide.

During their recent head-to-head exhibition matchup, the Serbians held tight with the Americans for about 15 minutes ... but then the USA went on a 31-5 run and maintained control from there.

Steph Curry (24 points), Bam Adebayo (17 points) and Anthony Edwards (16 points) continued to look great for the Olympic favourites. As did the rest of the star-studded squad that features LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, and Anthony Davis.

The near-30-point blowout was impressive because the Serbs feature a deep squad. Jokic, the three-time and reigning MVP, is certainly the headliner — but he has some talented role players around him.

Other NBA talents on Serbia's roster include Atlanta Hawks guard Bogdan Bogdanovic, Miami Heat forward Nikola Jovic and Charlotte Hornets guard Vasilije Micic.

Despite what the odds say, Serbia shouldn't be underestimated. They have a big, veteran squad that knows how to play together.

As it stands, the Serbs are in line to bring back nine players from their silver-medal-winning squad at last summer's 2023 FIBA World Cup. And that team didn't have Jokic.
