Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Montreal Alouettes

This week's marquee matchup features two elite defences battling for first place.
Montreal sits at the top of most per-game defensive categories including points (22.7), passing yards (223.3) and total yards (316).
If that doesn't convince you, the Alouettes have only allowed more than 23 points twice since Week 14 of 2023.
The Roughriders have been pretty good on the defence themselves, especially against the run.
Saskatchewan has allowed the fewest rushing yards through the first six games in franchise history (302) and has held its opponents under 100 yards rushing in each of the first six games for the first time ever.
Calgary Stampeders vs. Ottawa Redblacks

The Calgary Stampeders come in as the road favourite and it's easy to see why.
After losing three of its last four games, Calgary was stumbling into its matchup against the Grey Cup favourites BC Lions last week. However, the Stampeders had a wonderful defensive performance and became the first team to hold BC under 300 total yards (274).
Meanwhile, the Ottawa Redblacks have a 4-2 record but have had an easy schedule so far
Their four wins have come against some of the worst teams in the league, including wins against the 0-6 Edmonton Elks (twice), the 1-5 Hamilton Tiger-Cats and 2-5 Blue Bombers.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Toronto Argonauts

A rematch of the 2022 Grey Cup features a pick 'em game between the Bombers and Argos.
Both teams have had similar problems throughout the first third of the 2024 season. The teams struggle to move the ball on offence, especially through the air. They are both in the bottom three in net offence and passing yards per game.
Coincidentally, Toronto and Winnipeg have the same strengths as well. They are both top three in rushing yards per game and have middle-of-the-pack defensive statistics.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Edmonton Elks

While the CFL's best go at it in Week 8, the league's worst will square off, too.
Hamilton snagged its first win last week behind its strongest defensive performance of the year, taking down the Argos, 27-24.
Meanwhile, Edmonton is still searching for its first win after firing general manager and head coach Chris Jones. Geroy Simon has since taken over as GM, while Jarious Jackson has been given the interim head coach tag.
You can expect fireworks in this one, as both these teams have been poor defensively throughout the year. Both the Tiger-Cats and Elks sit in the bottom three in points allowed, passing yards allowed and total yards allowed.
