Best MLB prop bets April 20: Bet on Juan Soto, Bryce Harper to do damage

Juan Soto and Bryce Harper headline Saturday's MLB prop bets.

The pregame narrative: Soto is off to a torrid start and faces a pitcher he's dominated in the past. Getting him at plus money to record two-plus total bases is my best bet. Elsewhere, Bryce Harper should get after a struggling Michael Soroka.

MLB prop bets

Best bet: Soto over 1.5 bases (+114)

Soto's tenure as a New York Yankee has started with a bang.

The 25-year-old is slashing .346/.468/.600 in 75 at-bats with four doubles and five home runs. He's gone deep in back-to-back games and has recorded a hit in 10 of his last 12.

If we're being honest, I'm not entirely sure why this is priced at plus money.

Soto is going up against Tampa Bay's Zach Eflin, who he's dominated in the past. The slugger is 11-for-25 with a pair of doubles and home runs against the big righty.

And it's not like Eflin has been doing all that well.

He's coming off a shutout start in 6.1 IP versus the Los Angeles Angels but ceded 12 earned runs in 17 IP before that.

One worry would be that Soto's keen eye takes away potential at-bats. After all, he does lead the majors in walks (18).

But Eflin doesn't give out freebies. His 2.0% walk rate is in the 96th percentile of all MLB pitchers, per Baseball Savant. The Rays also won't have the luxury of pitching around Soto with the hulking Aaron Judge behind him.

Key stat: Soto has cleared this line in seven of his last 12 games.

Quick picks

Harper over 1.5 bases (+104): It's been a touch-and-go start to the season for Harper so far.

Two two-time MVP is hitting just .225 with eight extra-base hits in 71 at-bats. But he's logged a hit in four straight games and stares down a huge plus matchup tonight.

Harper is going up against Chicago White Sox starter Soroka.

Injuries have de-railed the Canadian's once-promising pitching career. He ranks in the bottom 10 percentile for xERA (7.23), xBA (.326) and K rate (11.2) and has given up four-plus earned runs in three of his four starts.

It's a small sample size but Harper is 3-for-7 against the righty. I expect him to feast today.
