Betting insights
- The Yankees are 12-6 with Luis Gil on the mound this year ... but they've lost each of his past four starts. That includes a game against the Orioles in which he allowed seven earned runs over 1.1 innings.
- Houston has won seven of its past nine, and it draws a familiar matchup tonight against local product Nathan Eovaldi. According to Baseball Savant, the current Astros lineup is batting .336 with a .672 SLG against the veteran right-hander.
- Dallas Keuchel tossed 4.1 scoreless innings last time out, but he also allowed three hits and five walks. He'll draw a favourable matchup today, though. The Nationals have the second-worst wRC+ against left-handers (78).
- The Twins' offence has sustained an impressive hot streak, leading the majors in wRC+ over the past month (143). In that span, Minnesota has averaged 5.8 runs per game. Giants starter Hayden Birdsong has never faced any of Minnesota's hitters.
- Tonight, the Diamondbacks roll with 23-year-old Yilber Diaz in his second MLB appearance. He debuted on July 8, tossing 6.0 innings of one-run ball while striking out five. In 15 minor league starts this year, he posted a 12.4 K/9.
