It's a win-and-in scenario for the Washington Capitals tonight, who hold the fate of a few other Eastern Conference teams in their hands.

The pregame narrative: The final playoff spot in the East is going to either the Capitals, the Detroit Red Wings, the Pittsburgh Penguins or the Philadelphia Flyers. Detroit plays at the same time as Washington/Philadelphia, which only adds to the drama.

  • The over is 2-0 in matchups between the Flyers and Capitals this season, although the under is 4-0-3 in Washington's past seven games.
  • Carolina, which is locked into the No. 2 spot in the Metro Division, is 3-0 against Columbus this year. The under is 3-0 in those games.
  • Toronto beat Florida, 6-4, when they last met on April 1. That snapped a streak of nine straight unders dating back to March 29, 2023 (playoffs included).
  • Vancouver is 26-9-5 at home this season with a +42 goal differential. That includes a 4-2 win over Calgary last month.
