BC Lions vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

One of the better rivalries in the CFL is renewed in Week 9.

After the pair of teams met in back-to-back West Division finals, they have had very different starts to the 2024 season.

BC was the hottest team in the CFL, winning five straight contests before a shocking loss to Calgary two weeks ago. It is coming off a bye week, however, and will be the fresher team in this matchup.

The Bombers have stumbled out of the gate and still haven't found their footing. After starting 0-4 for the first time since 2012, they were seemingly figuring things out by winning back-to-back games.

But Winnipeg has since lost two straight games and is coming off an embarrassing 16-14 overtime loss to the Toronto Argonauts.

Montreal Alouettes vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats

The Ti-Cats have won two straight but will be faced with their biggest test of the year.

After starting 0-5, Hamilton claimed a 27-24 victory against the Argonauts before demolishing the Edmonton Elks 44-28 last week. The offence has been Hamilton's strength so far this season but it will have a big challenge against Montreal's defence.

Regarded as the best unit in the CFL, Montreal sits at the top of most per-game defensive categories, including points (22.7), passing yards (223.3) and total yards (316).

The Alouettes have only allowed more than 23 points twice since Week 14 of 2023, and only once this season.

Edmonton Elks vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Roughriders (undefeated at home) come in as the most heavily favoured team this week and it's easy to see why.

Saskatchewan's defence has been remarkable, especially against the run.

The Riders have allowed the fewest rushing yards through the first seven games in franchise history (335) and have held their opponents under 100 yards rushing in each of the first seven games for the first time ever.

Edmonton, on the other hand, hasn't won a game all year.

The Elks are still searching for their first win after firing general manager and head coach Chris Jones.

Toronto Argonauts vs. Calgary Stampeders

Like Saskatchewan, the Calgary Stampeders will look to remain undefeated at home against the Toronto Argonauts.

Both teams are coming off poor offensive showings last week. The Stamps only scored three points against the Redblacks despite having a middle-of-the-pack offence.

The Argos, meanwhile, scored 16 points in Week 8 but pulled out a win behind a strong defensive performance against the Bombers.

It's unclear who the pivot will be for Toronto moving forward. Cam Dukes and Nick Arbuckle split reps at practice all last week before Dukes was pulled after only the first quarter against Winnipeg.

Arbuckle played the remainder of the game but wasn't much better than his counterpart.
