Canada has a chance to advance to the knockout round despite FIFA's heavy sanctions.
The pregame narrative: The Canadians were deducted six points due to a drone spying scandal but have picked up wins against New Zealand and France. Now, a win over Colombia would all but ensure Canada's chance to defend its gold.

I'm getting Team of Destiny vibes from Canada.
The Canucks' scandal was maligned by the media and heavily punished by FIFA. On top of the six-point deduction, head coach Bev Priestman, alongside assistants Joseph Lombardi and Jasmine Mander, were sent home and received a one-year ban from all soccer-related activity.
Even after beating New Zealand last Thursday, a title defence seemed dead in the water.
Things were looking just as grim halfway through Sunday's game against France. Canada was a +505 underdog to beat the hosts pregame and needed to mount an improbable comeback after Les Bleus took a 1-0 lead into the break.
But Jessie Fleming levelled the score in the 58th before Vanessa Gilles provided this epic winner 12 minutes into added time:

Canada just beat the hosts — and FIFA's second-ranked nation coming into the Olympics. But was it really a shock? I don't think so.
That was the Canucks' fifth win in six games. They also haven't lost in regulation in 16 straight games, dating back to October 28, 2023. In that stretch, their only defeats were a pair of shootout losses to the United States.
I expect Canada to keep things rolling against No. 22 Colombia.
The Colombians lost their opener, 3-2, to France before beating New Zealand, 2-0. And in their two most recent friendlies they tied Japan and lost two to Ecuador.
Key stat: Canada is 13-1-0 in its last 14 games against teams outside of the United States.
