There's a real lack of drama surrounding the top pick in the NHL draft for a second consecutive year.
Connor Bedard was the overwhelming favourite to be selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2023. Now, Macklin Celebrini is the clear-cut choice to hear his name called by the San Jose Sharks. After that, however, the draft becomes a lot more difficult to predict.

Player to be drafted second overall odds
Betting markets | Betting odds |
Artyom Levshunov | -400 |
Ivan Demidov | +200 |
Anton Silayev | +1,000 |
Cayden Lindstrom | +2,500 |
Zeev Buium | +7,500 |
Sam Dickinson | +7,500 |
Carter Yakemchuk | +7,500 |
NHL draft odds as of 1:14 p.m. on 06/27/2024.
Levshunov's odds to go second overall are nowhere near as strong as Celebrini's to go first (that market is off the board), but he has a firm grip on the spot for now.
The Belarusian defenceman dominated for the NCAA's Michigan State Spartans this past season. He totalled nine goals and 35 points across 38 games.
Levshunov is a mobile defenceman that's capable of making plays at both ends of the ice.
The Athletic's Corey Pronman has Levshunov mocked to the Blackhawks at No. 2, and his mock drafts continue to be one of the most respected in the industry. TSN's Bob McKenzie has Levshunov listed at No. 3 in his prospects rankings.
Player to be drafted third overall odds
Betting markets | Betting odds |
Anton Silayev | -112 |
Artyom Levshunov | +325 |
Ivan Demidov | +450 |
Beckett Sennecke | +500 |
Cayden Lindstrom | +800 |
Sam Dickinson | +1,700 |
Zeev Buium | +2,000 |
NHL draft odds as of 1:14 p.m. on 06/27/2024.
This draft class is full of high-end defencemen and Silayev is another blueliner who'll likely go early.
Silayev is the odds-on favourite to go No. 3 to the Anaheim Ducks and his size is something the team could use.
The Russian rearguard has a hulking 6-foot-7, 207-pound frame and has ample mobility.
He's a KHL player who suited up for 63 regular season games and five playoff contests with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod last season.
Pronman has Silayev slated to go No. 3 to the Ducks. He is No. 4 on McKenzie's top prospects list.
Player to be drafted fourth overall odds
Betting markets | Betting odds |
Cayden Lindstrom | -162 |
Ivan Demidov | +400 |
Anton Silayev | +400 |
Beckett Sennecke | +600 |
Zeev Buium | +2,500 |
Sam Dickinson | +2,500 |
Artyom Levshunov | +3,000 |
NHL draft odds as of 1:14 p.m. on 06/27/2024.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have the fourth pick and are desperate for offence.
Lindstrom is a prototypical power forward who dominated (when healthy) for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL. He recorded 27 goals and 46 points across 32 games while dealing with injuries.
The Blue Jackets could use some serious help down the middle of the ice which is why this pick makes sense.
Pronman has Lindstrom mocked to go No. 4. McKenzie has Lindstrom as his No. 5 prospect.
Player to be drafted fifth overall odds
Betting markets | Betting odds |
Ivan Demidov | +160 |
Cayden Lindstrom | +250 |
Beckett Sennecke | +275 |
Anton Silayev | +1,300 |
Zeev Buium | +1,500 |
Berkly Catton | +2,000 |
Sam Dickinson | +2,500 |
NHL Draft odds as of 1:14 p.m. on 06/27/2024.
These lines suggest that the draft becomes much tougher to call at No. 5.
Demidov is the favourite by the odds to go the Montreal Canadiens but nobody dips into minus-odds territory.
The winger will play for SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL next season after spending most of the previous year with the team's MHL affiliate. He totalled 60 points in 30 games before notching 28 points across 17 postseason appearances.
Pronman lists Demidov as the No. 5 pick in the draft. McKenzie has the electric winger as his second-best prospect.
