Portugal and France meet in the quarterfinals at Euro 2024.

The pregame narrative: Two powerhouse nations will be fighting for a single spot in the semifinals. France has looked like the more polished side so I'm backing Les Bleus to advance past Portgual and on to the next round.

Best Bet: France to go through (-143)

France was the pre-tournament favourite heading into Euro 2024 but ended up losing out on Group D to Austria.

Les Bleus followed that up with a strong outing against Belgium where they looked the better side throughout.

The team was rewarded with an 85th-minute game-winning own goal off of opposing defender Jan Vertonghen

However, the defence has surprisingly been the difference for this team.

France has conceded just one goal which came away from open play when Robert Lewandowski slotted a penalty kick in a 1-1 draw with Poland.

Portugal was impressive in qualifiers and leading into the Euros but the offence has fallen flat on its face. It was held scoreless in a 2-0 defeat to Georgia and then for another 120 minutes in the Round of 16 game against Slovenia before advancing on penalties.

In that game, the team created 33 crosses but that resulted in a measly six shots on target. That simple approach won't be enough to trouble the French defence.

In a similar fashion to Belgium, an offence that is trending downward can't be trusted against France right now.

Les Bleus' offence has been struggling mightily as well yet they still have looked in little danger in this tournament.

If Kylian Mpabbe and the surrounding talent can get back to top form, look out for France moving forward.
