Denis Shapovalov continues his quest at Wimbledon with a match against Daniel Altmaier on Wednesday.
The pregame narrative: Shapovalov looked fantastic in his first match against Nicolas Jarry, winning in straight sets. I expect him to continue his strong play in an easier matchup against Altmaier in the second round.

Shapovalov vs. Altmaier Wimbledon odds
Best Bet: Shapovalov -5.5 games (-134)
When Shapovalov is on, he looks like a top-ranked player.
That was the case when the Canadian buried Jarry on Monday in straight sets (6-1, 7-5, 6-4).
Altmaier, on the other hand, didn't surpass his first-round opponent, Arthur Fery, as easily. It took the German all five sets to get it done (4-6, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1) in a match that lasted three hours and 43 minutes.
That was far more time than Shapovalov needed to win his match (just under two hours).
Considering Altmaier had the unranked opponent, most would think it was the other way around but that shows the level that Shapovalov is playing at.
He held all 14 of his service points while converting on 4-of-10 break points.
Altmaier also hasn't seen strong competition over the last year.
Over the last 12 months, he has played against players with an average rank of 211.68 and Shapovalov has played against opponents with an average rank of 137.09, per matchstat.com.
The Canadian played the better players lately and has had success at Wimbledon before. In 2021, he made it to the semifinals before losing to Novak Djokovic in a rather close game (7-6, 7-5, 7-5).
His career 22-22 record on grass is his worst of all the surfaces but when Shapovalov is on his game, he's a hard matchup for anyone on any court.
Plus, he still carries a better record than the German on grass.
Key stat: Altmaier is 8-13 on grass in his career.
