Dodgers vs. Padres same-game parlay July 30: Back Ohtani, take the under in San Diego

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres re-ignite their NL West rivalry.

The pregame narrative: San Diego's knuckleballer Matt Waldron battles L.A.'s Tyler Glasnow, who is making his second start after a short IL stint. I expect those two to keep the scoring low. I'm also backing Glasnow to record five-plus strikeouts alongside Shohei Ohtani's bases prop.

Check out our Dodgers vs. Padres same-game parlay for July 30 below.

Dodgers vs. Padres same-game parlay

Parlay: Under 8.5 runs + Glasnow over 4.5 strikeouts + Ohtani over 1.5 bases (+290)

Under 8.5 runs (-155): These are two of the better offensive teams in baseball but the pitching should win out tonight.

Glasnow carries a respectable 3.47 ERA into this game alongside a stellar 0.96 WHIP. The latter ranks fourth in MLB.

In two starts against San Diego this year, he's held the Padres to just three hits and three earned runs in 12.0 innings pitched.

As for Waldron, his knuckleball has mystified this current Dodgers lineup — and most of MLB for that matter. L.A. is batting .040 against him in 32 plate appearances and Waldron has a 3.64 ERA on the season.

Both of Waldron's starts versus L.A. have gone under this number as have both of Glasnow's starts versus San Diego.

Other parlay picks

Glasnow over 4.5 strikeouts (-315): The Padres have the lowest strikeout total in the league but Glasnow managed to ring up 10 batters when he last went up against them.

I'm asking for just half of that production tonight.

Glasnow's 33.0% K rate ranks in the 95th percentile, according to Baseball Savant. He's cleared this mark in 16 of 19 starts on the season and has seven-plus Ks in 13 of those games.

The righty threw 91 pitches in his return from a short IL stint. I'm not worried about a pitch count stopping him tonight.

Ohtani over 1.5 bases (-152): Ohtani has only faced one knuckleballer in his career and it's been Waldron.

He's yet to record a hit against that pitch but I'll wager that the NL MVP favourite finds a way to break through tonight.

Ohtani ranks fourth in MLB in batting average (.314) and is second in home runs (32), OPS (1.043), and total bases (260). He's cleared this mark in four of his last six games, too.

At the end of the day, Waldron is a contact pitcher. Ohtani ranks in the 100th percentile for hard-hit rate, barrel rate, and average exit velocity.
