Scottish Open odds and best bets: Back Tommy Fleetwood, Hideki Matsuyama and Viktor Hovland

The PGA Tour heads overseas for a co-sanctioned event at the Scottish Open.

The latest: It's the final tune-up before The Open which means a stacked field. Rory McIlroy is favoured with Xander Schauffele right behind. But I'm looking a little further down the board for value and am backing Tommy Fleetwood, Hideki Matsuyama and Viktor Hovland.

Check out our Genesis Scottish Open odds and best bets for the tournament beginning on July 11.

Historic collapse at the U.S. Open aside, McIlroy has been playing some damn good golf.

The Northern Irishman hasn't finished outside of the top 15 in his last six starts. That includes the aforementioned runner-up and two wins (Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Wells Fargo Championship).

He hasn't missed a cut since last year's Masters and won this event last year in spectacular fashion:

Schauffele is next on the board and has been in good form since winning his first major at the PGA Championship.

Corey Conners (+4,500) holds the shortest odds of any Canadian while Robert MacIntyre (+3,300) looks to improve on his runner-up finish last year to win his national open.

Scottish Open best bets

Fleetwood top-20 finish (-110) & to win (+2,200): Fleetwood has never won an event on American soil but he's been a regular in the winner's circle overseas.

The Englishman has seven DP World Tour wins including a victory at the Dubai Invitational earlier this year where he edged out McIlroy and Thriston Lawrence by a stroke.

And it's not like he's been uncompetitive stateside. Fleetwood has seven top-five PGA Tour finishes in the last two seasons. That includes a runner-up at the Canadian Open in 2023 and a T3 at the Masters this year.

He's also logged four top-20 finishes in his last six starts while never finishing worse than 26th. The consistency is there and this course should be a breakout spot.

Fleetwood's last four finishes at the Renaissance Club: T6, T4, T26, T2.

Hovland top-20 finish (+110) & to win (+1,600): Backing Hovland might seem a bit sketchy right now considering how awful his around-the-green play has been.

A delicate short game is a prerequisite to success here and the Norweigan ranks 174th out of 175 PGA Tour players in strokes gained around the green (-0.650).

But Hovland has reunited with swing coach Joe Mayo who helped pull him out of short-game hell a year ago. I'm banking on Mayo solving the yips yet again.

Every other part of the 25-year-old's game has been solid. He ranks eighth in strokes gained: off-the-tee (+0.671) and has three top-20 finishes in his last four starts, including a T3 at the PGA Championship.

Matsuyama top-20 finish (+150) & to win (+2,800): Matsuyama doesn't have short game problems. Far from it, actually.

He ranks first in strokes gained: around-the-greens (+0.798) and fourth in strokes gained: total (+1.342). I'm a little surprised to see the 2021 Masters champion this far down the odds board.

He's one of the best ball strikers on tour and has been posting good results all season long.

Matsuyama woin the Genesis Invitational, finished T6 at the Players, sixth at the U.S. Open and T8 at the Memorial Tournament.
