Raptors vs. Spurs preview
Toronto has struggled without Gradey Dick in the lineup, and chances are he'll miss tonight as well.
He was the best player on the court against the Oklahoma City Thunder on July 13, collecting 18 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
In his absence, the Raptors will have to look elsewhere for offence. A good place to start would be first-round pick Ja'Kobe Walter. He is coming off his best Summer League performance, where the 19-year-old put up 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting (3-for-7 from 3-point range).
It was a rather refreshing performance after the rookie struggled to find his stride in the first three games, averaging under 10 points in those outings.
Ulrich Chomche continues to look like a promising project pick. He was taken in the second round and is averaging 4.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists on 58.3% shooting.
The big man has also knocked down one of his two 3-point attempts. He has the potential to be valuable on both ends of the floor in the future.
Fourth overall pick Stephon Castle headlines the Spurs' roster. The UConn product scored 21 points in his only outing in Vegas but is nursing an injury as well and will be unavailable.
San Antonio's second-round pick, Harrison Ingram, is the only other 2024 draftee on the squad. As a result, many undrafted players are in Vegas trying to earn a spot on one of the youngest teams in the NBA.
And so far, so good. There haven't been any standouts, but the Spurs are 3-1 in Summer League action and have performed better than the Raptors.
That helps explain why San Antonio is favoured on Sunday.
